One would think that because I’m done with finals, done with the Christmas rush of work stuff, and totally on break for the next few weeks, that I would be able to update here more often. However, it’s FUN to be on break and doing Christmas things and hanging out with my little family all day, so it’s not exactly surprising that I haven’t been running to the computer. At the same time, what if I forget weird details about the last couple of weeks that that I would prefer to remember? We’ll start with a foray back into list making, with goals to do real stories later.
Important tidbits, in no particular order:
* I finished finals. Yay! They went fine, as far as I can tell, and some million years from now, I will know how I did. Apparently some classes didn’t get their grades last year until SPRING BREAK, so I am trying not to get my hopes up that there will be grades anytime soon.
* We had an awesome time at the Blake tournament. It was run really well, the students did well, and it was a nice weekend in a hotel with journeys on the Skyway to Target and for walks with the baby. There were some weird things as well: I forgot how much harder it is to be with her 24 hrs/day in an unfamiliar place – she wanted to be held by me approximately 99% of the time she was awake, and my arms started to hurt badly by the end of the second day. We had a mishap Sunday morning with Skyways not being open, which sucked, and ended up walking outside for a block and a half in order to get sub-par coffee.
* Christmas was really fun – K figured out how to rip packages, even though she had little to no idea what was in them or why that mattered. She also figured out how to shriek at the cats and has taken to screaming in happiness, which we find hilarious but is not exactly appropriate.
* I highly recommend going to the Macy’s animatronic Christmas display downtown AFTER Christmas – there were like 20 people there total, no lines, and it was still really lovely. We saw all the ropes for the lines that we could have been standing in, and instead we went directly in and through the exhibit twice with a stop for a cookie in the middle. We came home after a nice stop at the FireLake for dinner, and K slept until 7:15 this morning. I am trying not to get used to her sleeping 11-12 hours at a stretch, but it is awesome.
* This week, I have three goals: catch up on some work paperwork, go to the outlet mall, and finish applying for jobs. I love winter break, where “go to the outlet mall” counts as a legitimate agenda item. Also, tips on that whole “get a summer job” thing are highly appreciated.

i have no tips for summer jobs except to blast everywhere with resumes that have super specific cover letters. which totally sucks.
[...] Does it count as etched if I have to look it up on Google Calendar? June 1 was when I started an awesome summer job. May 13 was K’s first birthday. June 26 was my fifth wedding anniversary, which we actually celebrated in September with a night away and a trip to see Patton Oswalt. I started the third semester of law school on September 9, and December 25 felt like K’s first real Christmas, since she was too little to really understand it last year. [...]
[...] worked in retail so “shopping” mostly occurred on breaks or during lunch. I’ve mentioned this before, sometimes in ridiculous detail (that 2005 one is somewhat mortifying 6 years later). [...]
